What is Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own marketing efforts. The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as 'retailer' or 'brand'), the network (that contains offers for the affiliate to choose from and also takes care of the payments), the publisher (also known as 'the affiliate'), and the customer. The market has grown in complexity, resulting in the emergence of a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third party vendors. Way back in the 90's, a technological revolution happened in the form of the World Wide Web; and with any new technology or media, companies quickly realised they had a new opportunity to market their products and services to consumers via the millions of websites they visit every day.

Today you will find that many of the well known brands have their own Affiliate marketing campaigns and most likely its affiliated members display their ads on the websites.

Affiliate marketing is also a great way to make money for you or your business if you have large enough audience within the demographic advertiser is aiming at.
